
Energy Saving Schemes
The two main government supported programmes to save energy in N. Ireland are the NISEP scheme and the Warm Homes Scheme.
NISEP
The various energy saving initiatives available under NISEP are listed here.
The scheme has a limited budget which was exhausted before it finished last year so if applicable we would strongly recommend making an early application.
Warm Homes
Offers a range of insulation measures to households on a qualifying benefit. Offers insulation and heating measures to households in receipt of a qualifying benefit and who are identified through the assessment process to have Economy 7 , Solid Fuel, Bottled Gas / LPG or no system at all.
Who is eligible?
Housing Executive and Housing Association tenants are NOT eligible.
Householders (‘the person or spouse of a person named in deeds; or the person or spouse of a person named in tenancy agreement’) of any age in receipt of one or more of the qualifying benefits may be eligible:
· Income Support
· Income Related Employment Support Allowance
· Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance
· Pension Credit
· Child Tax Credit (with relevant income less than £15,910)
· Working Tax Credit
· Disability Living Allowance
· Attendance Allowance
· Housing Benefit
What is available
· Cavity Wall Insulation
· Loft Insulation
· Hot water tank jacket
· Benefit Entitlement Check
· Energy Advice
Warm Homes Plus
Who is eligible?
Housing Executive and Housing Association tenants are NOT eligible.
Householders (‘the person or spouse of a person named in deeds; or the person or spouse of a person named in tenancy agreement’) of any age in receipt of one or more of the following benefits and who are identified through assessment to have Solid Fuel, Economy 7, Bottles Gas system (LPG ) or no system at all.
· Housing Benefit
· Income Support
· Income Related Employment Support Allowance
· Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
· Pension Credit
· Working Tax Credit
What is available?
As well as the improvements available under Warm Homes, householders who are in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits may also be eligible for:
· Installation of a fully controlled energy-efficient oil or gas central heating system where no system currently exist.
· Conversion of an existing bottled gas (LPG), solid fuel or Economy 7 heating system to oil or natural gas.
(If you live in an area where Natural Gas is available that will be the fuel of choice)
Wood Pellet boilers may be available for those householders in receipt of a Warm Homes Plus qualifying benefit, where oil or gas is not available.
Internal dry lining may be available for householders in receipt of a Warm Homes Plus qualifying benefit, where the property has solid external walls
How is the work carried out
Contractors are organised by the scheme to carry out the work in full. No grant or sum is provided to the householder.
The work carried out is covered by warranty.
